Hi all,
A disgruntled student contacted me late last week. He was getting an error message when he tried to get into the publication AIDS Policy and Law through Journal Finder. He had phoned reference and was told that we had cancelled this journal along with many others due to budget problems.
If a journal is not available, please do not announce that we've just cancelled lots of journals and this is probably one of them. This will not help the patron in any way. In most cases, including this one, that info is also incorrect.
If there is an error message when trying to get into something in Journal Finder, contact the appropriate subject librarian or Beth Bernhardt, the Electronic Serials Librarian. Inform the patron about ILL and offer search assistance for finding a similar article. If the patron is disgruntled or the info need is complex, get patron contact info and send it with details about the info need to the appropriate subject librarian.
Sometimes patrons ask about a journal that they remember using through our library. Again, if the patron isn't happy with info about ILL and an offer of additional search assistance, feel free to refer the question to a subject librarian.
Thanks,
Lea
