Databases don't always email pdfs-Science Direct, Gale Virtual Reference Library, Dissertations and Theses Full text

Databases don't always email pdfs, sometimes they just send a link that does NOT work off campus. Sometimes a db will actually send a pdf but the message is so big, the patron's email account won't accept it.

Quick reminder since both situations came up on Saturday.

Science Direct is more frustrating than ever for pdf emailing. Take these steps or help the patron to follow them-
  1. Right click on the PDF icon
  2. Choose "save as" or "save target as" to save the pdf to a desktop
  3. Open an email account, create a message to the patron and attach the file

Gale Virtual Reference Library - On Sat a patron's email account wouldn't accept an article from GVRL, said it was too big. So GVRL might be another db to be careful of, like Dissertations and Theses Full Text.

Cheers, Lea
