Three ENG 101 classes doing Greensboro History

There are currently 3 sections of ENG 101 doing research related to Greensboro/UNCG History. Two of the sections have Summar Sparks as their instructor and they are working closely with Erin and SCUA so I don't anticipate that you'll have a lot of questions at the desk about using the Vertical Files, etc. from them. Their assignment is to select a subject related to civil rights or race relations and UNCG and develop a creative project (a play, a poem, etc). They would mostly be looking for secondary sources about their subjects and/or the movements/events with which those subjects were involved.

The other is a repeat of the classes last semester that heavily used the vertical file and, to a lesser extent, microforms. The instructor is Anna Smith and their goal is to find three primary sources - one photograph, one interview/oral history, and one newspaper article on an event. The instructor has asked me to encourage them to use the vertical file and microforms for the photo and article. Events that were popular last time included: Nazi/KKK confrontation, Sit-Ins, desegregation at UNCG/Greensboro public schools, etc. Please let me know if you have questions.
