Guilford County High School Borrowing Privileges

It's good to have a reminder about these types of things.  After getting a chat question about it, I asked Cathy Griffith for some more info:

We have a borrowing agreement with the Guilford County School System that includes employees and middle and high school students.

Employees can borrow by providing picture ID and proof of employment (usually being listed on the school website).  They can borrow up to 25 items at one time; no DVDs.

Students can be referred to us to borrow up to 5 specific items or items on a specific subject at one time by their media center librarians; no DVDs. The librarians are supposed to rule out that the items they needs are available in their library and at public libraries.  Then they fill out a referral form (attached) that the student has to take home to have a parent or guardian sign. (This step is necessary so that the parent/guardians know that they are borrowing from us in case they receive a bill for items that are not returned. or returned late. The form is provided by GCS and is supposed to be available on their staff website.  It is out of date as far as policies, but our policies more favorable...30 day loans, no fines until 40 days overdue, etc.)  The form then goes back to school for signatures.  Then the student brings the form and picture ID to us to register to borrow.  If they have no picture ID, a parent or guardian who has one must come with them.

We also have a special program for students in the International Baccalaureate programs.  The media librarians can send us lists of these students and they can come in with their ID to register without going through the referral process,  (The schools are supposed to providing information about borrowing from us to the IB student parents.)  IB students follow the same borrowing policies as the others.

We also have similar agreements with the American Hebrew Academy, New Garden Friends School and Oak Ridge Military Academy.

We do not have any agreement with the Winston-Salem Forsyth County School System that cover students. We do have one that covers WSFCS employees.   Nor do we have any agreements with any private schools in Forsyth County.  Students in Forsyth County usually go through WFU or WSSU.
