Hi all,
Some nursing students are working on a case study and might come in through chat to ask for information about the best test to use to diagnose type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes.
You can send the question to me via chat if I'm online, email laleinin@uncg.edu if I'm not.
But also in case you're curious, here's how I got to an answer including a couple of dead ends:
1. Searched AccessMedicine reference books, textbooks, videos, etc -a quick reference book had lists of tests for T1 and lists of tests for T2 but I didn't see comparisons. It might be in here somewhere but this was chat so I moved on when I didn't see it right away.
2. Searched CINAHL for a comparison article - didn't see anything useful in a quick search for type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes and test* so I moved on
3. DynaMed Plus has information about 1000s of health conditions - background, epidemiology, treatment, and practice guidelines. When I typed diabetes, I found summaries for T1 and T2 that included testing but the student didn't like them ("only brief information").
That section on diagnosis and testing referenced a practice guideline from the American Diabetes Association. That's the most authoritative source that I could think of for this info. I Googled to a link that the student said worked for them: https://care.diabetesjournals.org/content/43/Supplement_1/S14.long
Thanks!
Lea
