Here's some early information about the new Request button. Cathy Griffith is making a webpage about it. Policies and etc might get adjusted as this is tested. This is just current status as of 1/21/2021.
Summary
- A Request button should appear in records like this for Jackson and Schiffman Stacks items that are available for checkout
- Patron clicks request button then "My Library" account to request that a book be pulled for them, then chooses whether they want to pick up the item at the library or if they'd like it shipped
- This is for UNCG students and employees and also the community borrowers who pay $35/year
- the request button isn't for other borrowers like TALA members or UNC system reciprocal borrowers or high school teachers from the area, etc. Borrower groups are listed here
If a patron would like to have a book pulled for them
- If the book is available in Jackson Stacks or Schiffman Stacks, point them to the Request button instead of checkout@uncg.edu where we send other access services questions
- Help them get a WorldCat Discovery My Library Account
- ask if they're a distance education student. At the moment, DE students should continue to use the ILLIAD Interlibrary Loan software if they want to have books shipped to them
During the spring semester, the pilot test will be evaluated
Questions should go to Alex (or if you don't remember her name specifically, Access Services can figure out that the question is for her).
Thanks,
Lea
