I (Jenny) have been working with a faculty member in Classical Studies who is requiring students to come to the library to look at some specific books. What we've decided to do is have three books (two from reference and one from the stacks) held at the reference desk for students in this class (CCI 250: Myth) to consult. Ideally, students will go to the stacks to look for a book, then see a placeholder that redirects them to the reference desk. They have specific tasks to complete for their assignment, but our main responsibility is to let them use the books. I recommend keeping these books at the lower desk and asking students to use them there so that they don't walk away.
