This is just a note to say that email and calendar content for both faculty and staff have now been switched to Outlook (Microsoft). This means that faculty and staff can no longer send or receive messages from Gmail and that calendar content has been moved to Microsoft's calendar app. This does not apply to student accounts, which will be switched later (this summer, I think). Google Drive and Box have not been affected or switched for anyone yet, including faculty and staff. Right now the changes only apply to email and calendar for faculty and staff.
Anyway, what this means for you is that you may get questions from faculty and staff about this change at the desk and on chat. Here's what to do:
- For patrons who are asking questions in person: send them to the 6-TECH support center in the SuperLab
- For patrons who are asking questions via chat: send them this link - https://technologyinitiatives.uncg.edu/outlook-migration-support/ - and help them figure out which of the options listed there might be best for them to try. This page includes an Outlook "cheat sheet."
- For patrons who are asking questions over the phone: refer them to this help line - 336-256-8324
We are still working out what this switch means for shared department calendars, such as the desk calendar. Remember that your shifts are listed in LibStaffer; refer to that as the official shifts calendar if you need a reminder about when you are working.
If you need support or advice or have any questions about this change, please reach out to myself, Nick, Liane, or Jenny. You can also feel free to ask Josh questions if you're at the desk with him and a question comes up about this change.
