NUR 610

Nursing theory questions have started rolling in from the NUR 610 crowd. These students are asked to find several types of articles based on a category of nursing theory, for instance "I need to find a research article that uses a grand nursing theory."

There's a NUR 610 course guide up for students (I do meet with this class), but here's the quickie version with ref service commentary.

Ideally, answering this question is a 2 step process

1. Identify a grand theory of interest (unless the student already has a theory in mind). Nursing sources are pretty coy about giving lists of theories by category, so it's easiest to find a public web page such as http://www.nurses.info/nursing_theory_accepted_theories.htm or http://www.nursingtheory.net/gt1.html

2. In CINAHL, search for the name of the theory and last name of the author of the theory. For instance, conservation model and levine. Under search options, you can set publication type to Research. This will cut out most of the irrelevant article types.

There aren't easy pickins for all of the theorists-if you get into a bind, pls email me the patron's contact info and theory/theorist of interest.
