NTR 302 - 5 research articles

 Hi all,

The 23 students in NTR 302 are working on a group assignment right now.  Each student is supposed to find 5 primary research articles published within the past 5 years on some variation of the overall group topic.

Some students are struggling with determining whether an article is research or not.  It's not our role to approve articles.  But we can nudge students to pull out their assignment instructions, and also guide them in looking at titles, abstracts, and methods sections so that they can make this determination.

 Here's a guide: https://uncg.libguides.com/ntr302

Please refer students to me if there's struggle (including if there's a lot of other activity and you don't have time).  If I'm not around: laleinin@uncg.edu or  https://go.uncg.edu/meetlea

Here's part of an assignment checklist that a student gave me:

"Find FIVE primary sources – primary sources are the first reporting of a research study’s findings, characterized by sections called Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusion, and typically including tables, graphs or some other visual representation of the results"

A few search tips:

  • Type NOT review wherever you're searching for sources
  • If you're searching someplace like ProQuest, add AND method* to your search

Not a guarantee but these things can help.

Thanks,

Lea
