In relation to the upcoming tower closer and inaccessibility of that collection, some changes have been made to how the Community Borrower plan is managed.
First, starting Monday, 4/8, first time and renewing Community Borrowers will receive the WMS borrowing account expiration date of 12/10/2027. This date will provide them plenty of borrowing time after the renovation to compensate for the @18-month period when the tower collection will be unavailable. Access Services staff and student desk managers will explain what is happening and why before payments are made. Additionally, we will determine which Community Borrowers have paid already this year, extend their accounts to the same date, and notify them by email. During the tower closure, Community Borrowers will be able to renew any materials on their accounts when the tower closes up to 12 times online or in person, be able to borrow materials from HSML, request and borrow materials from Ferguson storage, and borrow any returned or new materials that will be housed in Main.
Second, because of the need to explain the extension and reason for it, the payment button has been removed from the Community Borrowers, etc. web page and the instructions updated for the new process. The payment portal is available on a private web page at the Checkout Desk on the desk PCs, and only offered after the plan changes are explained. Additionally, there is notification at the top of this page to alert all non UNCG borrowers of the renovation and collection access plans with links to the renovation web pages.
