DMC Technology Libguide

The DMC has updated their LibGuide with several new technology offerings. Please take a look at what they have and note that some items will not be available to check out until later this semester.

These items are not explicitly listed on the Technology Checkout website of the libraries, so please make sure you are familiar with what they have to offer or where to find it.

 From Joe Williams!

Just a reminder here of what the DMC staff does and does not do!

The DMC staff does:
·         Help students, faculty, and staff with any kind of digital project. We help with basic things like using Word and PowerPoint, and more complicated things like editing videos or recording a podcast.
·         Help patrons with scanning questions that ASD staff can’t answer.
·         Help patrons take audio or video files off of camcorders and audio recorders, and turn them into a finished product.
·         Help patrons use our presentation practice room to video-record themselves.

The DMC staff does not:
·         Loan any kind of technology. We do not loan anything at all in the DMC.
·         Film or record things for patrons.

The DMC has equipment installed that lets patrons do the following:
·         Record a presentation (in the Presentation Practice Room or our Media Editing Rooms)
·         Record audio (in the Media Editing Rooms)
·         Work together in groups using a computer with a large monitor (in the Consultation Rooms)

All of the DMC rooms can be scheduled through the room reservation scheduler:
·         Media Editing Rooms
·         Presentation Practice Room
·         Group Study Room (no technology in this room)
·         Consultation Rooms

Our partners in the DMC, the Digital A.C.T. Studio, help and consult with students on creating, wording, and shaping the content in a digital project. They make sure the media is conveying the ideas effectively. You can learn more about their services at http://digitalliteracycenter.uncg.edu/

Please let me, Armondo, or Rick know if you have any questions at all about the DMC.

Skype and webcams in DMC

from Joe Williams two notes about the DMC Media Editing Rooms (formerly the faculty research rooms in the lower level):

First, all six rooms are now operational.

Second, these six rooms now have webcams installed on their computers. Skype is being installed this week as well.

The room scheduler has been updated to include webcams in the media room descriptions.

So, if you get patron requests for webcams or places to video chat, please direct them to the DMC Media Editing Rooms!

DMC Consultation Rooms

The DMC has designated some of their rooms as consultation rooms - so you may get people looking for Consultation Room A - just send them down to DMC.

Digital Media Commons

Some important DMC info - they do have a printer that is live, so we can send people down there to print, if our printer is busy. They also have scanners.

The DMC phone number is 336-256-1381.

The DMC email address is libdmc@uncg.edu.
