WorldCat Discovery updates - saved lists can now be made public

Hi folks,

In July OCLC gave a webinar for librarians about WorldCat Discovery updates.  Some highlights -

1. Saved lists now has a toggle to make your list public
  • you'll get a link to share
  • Our WCD libguide will soon include info on how to make your private lists public
2. Author names
  • “by author” link in results used to link to a name index
  • now links to a name phrase index and formats the author name to try to get a better match
3. If you click from basic search results to an advanced search, your keywords are filled in for you on the advanced search page

For more WCD news, check out
  • Terry's blog
  • Roadmap for updates planned through early 2019 (some won't be applicable to our library)
  • Latest product insight webinar recording - Listen now
Thanks,
Lea

Changes coming to WorldCat Discovery

Hi all,

If you're interested in timing and changes to WorldCat Discovery, please have a look at the report on the user meeting in our libraries' Professional Learning Blog.

Now that WorldCat Local is no longer getting new features, I'm going to talk more and more about the new system.

Technically I guess I should our catalog a "discovery system" since you can find articles and other stuff not traditionally listed in a catalog, but meh.  We're using it like a catalog so I'm sticking to that term.

Happy Friday!

staff libguide for WorldCat Discovery

Hi all,

There's now a library staff guide to WorldCat Discovery: http://uncg.libguides.com/wcdstaff

It's very brief but more info will be added.

Quick reminder, WorldCat Discovery is the next version of our library catalog. (the public searching side, not behind the scenes).

OCLC has not yet announced a "sunset date" for WorldCat Local, the version that we use now.  The ILSC catalog committee feels that WorldCat Discovery is not yet ready for our use.

Best,
Lea
