Audio books - new location

he Audio Books have been moved to the shelves directly behind the DVD shelving in the Reading Room.
Current Lit has been back-shifted to fill in the former Audio Book space, and signs to direct patrons to the Audio Books have been placed within that shelving. Another sign pointing to the new Audio Book shelving has been placed on the end of the aisle on which they are shelved.

Audiobook searching

A little glitch in catalog searching that Brian detected. In Advanced Search, you cannot use the format type limit to pull up only audiobooks. I checked with Terry B. and Mary Jane and the problem is connected to the way in which they are coded for circulation and may not be easily fixable. Using audiobooks as a keyword works pretty well - although it does turn up a handful of books that are about audiobooks. Luckily, it is not a search type we need often, although there are a lot of audiobooks on order, so that collection will be growing.

audio books delayed further.

If you have anyone ask about downloadable audio books, here is the latest info from NC Live. No expected date for the new service was included.

On Monday, September 19th, the MyiLibrary Audio Books service provided by NC LIVE was discontinued for use. While we had hoped to have the new Recorded Books One Click Digital audio book platform available, we are experiencing delays from our service provider as they complete development on the new product.

Audio book changes

From NC LIVE

On Monday, September 19th, NC LIVE will disable the MyiLibrary Audio Books platform from use. Beginning September 19th, you will no longer be able to access or download audio books via the MyiLibrary service.

The MyiLibrary Audio Books service available through NC LIVE and North Carolina libraries will soon change to a new audio book provider and platform, Recorded Books One Click service. Though NC LIVE staff had originally planned to simply swap one service out for the other, the Recorded Books One Click platform will not be ready until later this fall.

Because MyiLibrary is no longer supporting their platform and due to the level of patron complaints, we have decided to turn off the MyiLibrary service on September 19th. Unfortunately, this change will result in a gap in audio book service until we are able to begin service through Recorded Books.

We expect to have the new Recorded Books One Click platform available later this fall. The new Recorded Books platform will feature enhancements to the download process, as well as enhanced searching and browsing capabilities. As we have information on the new platform and when it will launch, we will pass that news along through this email list and via our Newsroom blog.

Audio books available from NC Live

Note: these should be in the database A-Z list under "Downloadable Audio Books" and should be added soon under "audio books"

The first set of 726 MARC records is now available for download for NC LIVE's MyiLibrary audio books. A second set containing the remaining records will be released shortly. As soon as we have the second set of records, we will message the list with information on where the files can be downloaded.

To download the first set of MARC records, click here: http://nclive.org/titles/datafiles/myilibrary_audio_set1.mrc

As you probably already know, the new NC LIVE website (currently available in preview mode from http://new.nclive.org) will become http://nclive.org on July 6th. You can find all available MARC records from the "For Library Staff" section of the new NC LIVE Website.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact our Help Desk at (919) 513-0451 or help@nclive.org.
