If a student comes to the desk (or asks via chat) for a movie that they want to check out for fun but is in the Instructional Collection, please jot it down on the sheet on the clipboard at the high desk. For the sake of authority control (yay cataloging!), if someone requests a title that's already on the list, put a tick mark beside the title.

refstud is back at the ref desk computers
News from Brown -
The refstud account is back at the desk computers. The current password is R---------t and is stored in the same place as the last one. It will have to be changed every 90 days. Franklin manages the student computer accounts, so he or whichever support person he designates will be the goto for that.
The ref desk machines are now customized with
No Q drive access yet but ERIT folks will be working overtime this weekend and probably through next Tues on migrating Q and other servers to McNutt.
If we need anything else on these machines, send a request to erit@uncg.edu

The ref desk machines are now customized with
- the ability to print to the big copier in the ref office (MCP1)
- our ref desk bookmarks in IE and FF
- Workflows
- Zotero
- The ability to install networked ITS applications that are under the "Run advertised program" icon on the desktop (atlasti, endnote, etc)

Printing at the ref desk
Good news: we can now print from our offices to the copier (MFCP1) after the support team installs the printer on your computer again.
Bad news: We can't print to that one from the ref desk anymore. We can print to the color printer in the office OP-1 and the OP-2 (the one in the ILL closet).

New home page
Yes, I've made the blog our new home page to ensure all our desk staff are reading it - I'm pretty much finding only about half of those who work the desk read it at all, let alone regularly. The blog is intended for information that is useful for us to know to help library users effectively. Much of this is time sensitive and I'll try to get better about deleting my own posts as they are no longer useful, and other hints are useful for longer periods. The alternative is lots of emails, which I'm trying to avoid. Thanks for reading the blog! Mary
