laptops for disabled students from Access Services

FYI, in case there are questions on laptop loan periods - but only mention if someone self identifies as being eligible.

Recently, a patron came to the Checkout Desk and requested an extended loan period for our laptops, based on his needs related to Office of Disability Services. The staff person at that time gave the patron a 6-hour loan period, which made the patron happy and was also the appropriate and correct thing to do.

According to O.D.S., instructors typically give students with special needs time-and-a-half consideration to complete tests, research assignments, etc. For example, if a test is scheduled to take one hour, the O.D.S. student would receive 1.5 hours to complete instead.

So, if a patron requests extended use time for our laptops based on their special needs, then it is appropriate to give them a six-hour loan period. Staff do not (at this time) need to verify the patron's status with O.D.S., please take them at their word. If patrons do not ask for an O.D.S.-related extended loan, do not suggest it.
