Terry Brandsma just sent a message to let the catalog committee know that the self check out machines are working but are still being tested.
Here's his message...enjoy :)
Thanks,

The SelfCheck units are now operational. It took about 3 weeks of back and forth with both OCLC and 3M to get the configurations correct, but they have been up for the past few days for testing with no issues so far. OCLC's documentation is lacking, and that causes a few delays as we tried to configure it on the WMS side. We also received a bit of assistance from UNCC.There are a few differences with SelfCheck against WMS. The biggest is that Sirsi allowed up to set material types that were not allowed to be SelfChecked. With WMS, if the item has an accessible barcode, and the user is authorized to borrow the material, it can be SelfChecked, regardless of the material format.A few general notes:
- Reference and BUO items cannot be SelfChecked (as expected).
- DVDs cannot be SelfChecked because the barcode is inside the locked case.
- Audiobooks on CD can be SelfChecked. Desensitization does not affect CDs.
- Magnetic material (cassettes, floppy disks, VHS, etc.) can be SelfChecked, but OCLC says that they will not be desensitized. Circ will be testing this soon. We have very few of these items in the circulating collections, and most of them are old and likely outdated.
As soon a Circ completes their testing and posts new instructions related to DVD and magnetic material checkouts, they will open the units for general use.
Another successful implementation. Thanks.
