This summer Access Services will testing a new process for Personal Copies for reserves. The impetus for testing this method came about because there is no way to create temporary items in WorldCat Discovery. This process allows for personal copies to be searchable and to show due dates in both versions of the public catalog. (However, still no due times.)
We have already started converting items that will be on reserve this summer today. The plan is to put all items on reserve this summer in both WorldCat Local and WorldCat Discovery so that we can see how it works in both places. Some of these items are also on reserve for spring so the spring listings are affected. Decisions will be made during the summer as to whether to continue using this process and, if so, whether to continue in both versions of the catalog. Continuing the process in WDS is dependent on when it is made available to the public.
The process involves adding Local Holding Records to OCLC records instead of creating temporary items. For the items that have already been converted, the temporary items in WMS and WCL were deleted and new ones created as well as those for WDS. In WCL and WDS, it makes items display on reserve lists in the same manner that library owned items do, i.e. you click the link to the item to take you to the public catalog display to get the call number and the availability.
Please take a look at these 2 courses to see how it works: Bio 111 and CST 105. In WDS expect to see a confusing note below Availability/Holding and remember that WDS is not offered to our patrons yet. Terry has reported this note to OCLC Support.
