"published DNP projects"

You might hear from some doctor of nursing practice students who have been asked to find "published DNP projects" related to their topic to critique, for NUR 798a.

If someone asks for "published DNP projects" or "DNP projects," please have a look at the DNP projects tab in the Doctor of Nursing Practice libguide: http://uncg.libguides.com/dnp  and of course feel free to refer the patron to me.  Here is more info:

Think of a DNP project as a doctoral capstone project.

The new NUR 798a instructor has said that the students need to find published articles based on DNP student research projects.  I've told her that I don't have a good strategy for narrowing article searches down to doctoral student research projects.

It certainly is possible to choose a DNP project from the Dissertations global database, then do some article searching on the author's name and a few title keywords.  Not many of these results in the dissertations database have been published as full articles, so this will require repeating the same kind of search over and over, which you should not do for these students.

It is also possible to search within the full text of articles for descriptors that a DNP student would have used: "dnp" + "this project" or "a project" + topic keyword. PQ Central is a good place to try this. You will probably find some results about how DNP projects should be done, and a lot of poster/conference presentation abstracts that would require further searching to determine whether the author had published a full article.

I've sent this information to the NUR 798a instructor and to several students so far this semester. I do not have a course guide for NUR 798a, but I will be visiting this group in Raleigh on Monday 5/23.

Thanks,
Lea
