This assignment continues your personal exploration of Bryan-related careers and the industries that employ those professionals, using one government data source (the BLS) and one library subscription database (IBIS).

Part 1: National & local data on your career

Go to the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Occupational Outlook Handbook (http://www.bls.gov/ooh/) and look up a career/occupation related to your major:

4.      How is the employment projected to change between 2014 and 2024?

Now visit the BLS’ Occupational Employment Statistics:

·         Go to http://www.bls.gov/oes/

·         Select “OES Data”, then “Occupational Profiles”

·         Search (left side) or browse for your career.

1.      What are the largest three “Industries with the highest levels of employment in this occupation”?

2.      What are the three “Top paying industries for this occupation”?

3.      Find the map for “Annual mean wage of [your occupation] by area, May 2015”. Mouse over an area where you would like to live and identify the mean annual wage:

Part 2: Industry Analysis using IBIS

The library subscribes to research databases like IBIS for students to use for free (othewise, each IBIS report costs $1,020). IBIS provides detailed analysis of 1,500 U.S. industries. It’s a popular database here.

1.      Look up one industry you identified above.

2.      Look in the “Industry Outlook” chapter. What is the trend for revenue growth to 2022?

3.      What is the status of its Industry Life Cycle?

4.      Using that chapter, identify two trends that will have an impact (positive or negative) on growth:
