NUR 473 - nursing nesearch articles, theory articles, integrative review articles

for throwback Tuesday, here's my advice on finding nursing research articles, theory articles, or integrative review articles, whether a student identifies themselves as NUR 473 or not (research course for distance education students who are RNs working towards a BSN) ---

--If a student asks "is this a theory article/integrative review article" feel free to refer that question back to the instructor/person who is grading the assignment
--If asked is this a research article - feel free to give the common info that a primary report of research in the sciences is understood to be an article/report/other document written by the researchers who gathered the data (if the student doesn't know how to make this determination, feel free to point out the methods section of the article, then refer to the instructor/person grading their assignment)

Referrals to Lea - knock on my door/chat me, or forward chat questions to me.  Remember that on nursing guides I have a box that shows my appointment availability.

Suggestions for these searches --

Here's an example of what I've been telling them (this student was interested in NIH stroke scale certification for PACU nurses):

I'm not sure if you've seen the library page for NUR 473 or searched any of these resources yet?

Start simple in CINAHL, which has examples of the article types you need.  Type an idea from your topic and the type of article you need. For instance, you could start by typing NIH stroke scale AND research.

You still need to look at result full text and make sure that you've found the kind of article that you need.

FYI, there are fewer integrative reviews than research articles out there, so you'll need to search very broadly indeed for those.  Perhaps type stroke and integrative review.

For theory articles, I'd suggest typing stroke and theory.  Lots of article descriptions mention theory but don't include one.  To help focus your results, next to where you type a topic the drop down option that says "select a field" can be changed to TI title.
