Recently, many computers have been displaying only alternate printing options like "Save to PDF" or "Adobe" instead of "Jackson Black and White" or "Jackson Color." When you click "See More," of course, the usual destinations are still there, but lots of students recently have been confused and wondering why they "can't print." Please note this is an ongoing ERIT issue that is continually being addressed. See Franklin' s response below:
"This is an ERIT issue. In fact, it is an on going issue that we've been working on for a while. There isn't an easy solution to the problem. With the introduction of Windows 10, Microsoft included a "feature" to make printing easier by letting Windows select the default printer that it thinks you're most likely to want to use. Unfortunately, Windows 10 is really bad at selecting the correct printer in our environment.
To try to resolve this issue, we've done a couple of things. First, we implemented a policy on all the public machines that is supposed to stop Windows from managing the default printer. Unfortunately, that policy does not always load. When it fails to load Windows take over managing the printers and typically selects something like "Save to PDF."
The second thing we've done is set up a logon script that sets the default printer to "Jackson Black and White." Most of the time this will force Windows to use the correct printer, even if the policy fails to load. However, sometime Windows will decide it likes another printer better.
All of this said, we're continuing to investigate solutions to this issue. Hopefully, we will find a better resolution to this issue soon.
Thanks,
Franklin"
