Please forget the earlier procedures immediately and do this instead!
We now bag all the items in clear, zippered plastic bags of various sizes and write on them the date, time, and area they were turned in or found and take them to the Checkout Desk. The ROI bags are located in a blue basket in the Main Office.
Additionally, for any items that the PD deems High Value (see the list of items we are accepting below), Access Services (ASD) is calling the PD after holding them for 2 hours, and they are sending someone over to pick them up. This way they can get started right away trying to find the owners. For most items that are valuable or confidential, ASD continues to send them to the EUC every Monday morning where someone from the PD picks them up along with the EUC items. They will then start trying to match items to owners. For storage devices, if they are not picked up by the end of the month they were turned in, we erase them and accumulate them to send to Waste Reduction and Recycling at least once per year. ASD is still taking lost SpartanCards to the ID center once a day, Monday - Thursday.
These are the items we are accepting:
High value: Cash, cellphones, tablets/laptops, or other significant electronics (not chargers, cords, earbuds, etc.) [This is the PDs list and is not negotiable.]
Other: Bags/bookbags, books, notebooks, personal papers/documents, wallets, purses, credit/debit card, ID cards, drivers’ licenses, keys, instruments, calculators, USB drives and other portable storage devices, chargers, water bottles, food containers, e-cig/vaping devices, clothing, jewelry, and assorted personal goods.
These are the items ASD is not accepting. It is up to the finder to decide what to do with them:
- Bottled, boxed, or canned drinks (recommend trashing or recycling)
- Pens or pencils, unless deemed to be expensive, i.e. (we are looking for our green, recycling box and plan to have it or something similar at the desk)
- Loose food items
- Face masks
If you have any questions, let Amy or Nick know!
