Hi all,
Yesterday some faculty in one of my liaison areas asked about sending students to Jackson Library to take tests using Respondus Lockdown browser. Their students need cameras.
I walked around, tested a little, chatted online and emailed. Here's my understanding of the current situation -
Liaison librarian colleagues pointed out that the proctoring lab is the go-to choice: https://testing.uncg.edu
We don't want instructors sending students to Jackson Library for this. There are no designated quiet areas, most computers are in group study areas and/or don't have cameras, none have been tested with Respondus.
Here are logistical workarounds, if you encounter a student who has been sent to Jackson Library in order to use Respondus Lockdown to take a test during Phase 1 of the renovation -
In case students have an emergency situation in which they must find a place to take a test -
There are UNCG log in computers on the main level of Jackson Library in the Reference Room and in the First Floor Reading Room. There are also UNCG log in computers in the lower level Digital Media Commons. The Respondus browser may be installed from the Application Catalog on the desktop of UNCG log in computers in Jackson Library.
The lower level Digital Media Commons has technology items including several webcams for checkout by students and UNCG employees. Jackson Library reservable study spaces include several single user Media rooms with computers, located in the DMC. They are primarily intended for media production.
Students may use log in computers and reservable study spaces all hours when Jackson Library is open. Webcams might not be available.
Reported from the ERIT support team: "The computers that were in the CITI are now on the north side of the Reading Room (near the Walk-in Center) These 20 machines have webcams installed. Though we have not verified that they are compatible with Respondus, we have no reason to believe they wouldn't be."
Thanks,
Lea
