Here are details on the new innovation project for MKT 309: Business Communications, a required class for business school students with therefore 100's of students and many sections each semester.
The problem this time: Reducing textile waste
The class uses design thinking: In the course, students will use the three-stage Design Thinking Problem-solving Approach instead of the standard academic scientific approach to solve this problem. The course content, activities, and deliverables are carefully sequenced to move you from the beginning (clarifying the project's direction) to the end (communicating the innovation-decision to the team’s chosen company).
Student subtopics for secondary research within each student team could include Initial Analysis of the Selected Company, Environmental Impact of Textile Production, and Innovation in Textile Reuse and Recycling.
Each student has to do primary research too, usually through an interview with an industry and academic expert. They have some suggestions on how to find one. (I've warned the CARS profs.)
