Hi all,
Sometimes you might follow library links to article full text and end up on an article abstract page that says Order PDF instead of actually having a pdf:
If you're seeing this when you followed a path from the UNCG libraries website, then it's an example of a pay per view service. The libraries don't subscribe to this journal. When a student or employee needs an article, they enter their name and UNCG email address and the pdf will be purchased and sent to them. The student/employee asking for the article isn't charged.
For example, if a student asks for this article - https://doi.org/10.1016/j.amjmed.2014.01.001 - they should follow this process:
1. Use a University Libraries system to navigate full text. For instance, paste the article title into WorldCat Discovery, the red search box.
2. When you see the article record - https://uncg.on.worldcat.org/oclc/5902248064 - click the View full text button
3. In the Science Direct database, click the article title to see the abstract which will have an "order pdf" button instead of a pdf
4. Enter name and UNCG email
5. When the article full text is ready, typically within 24 hours on a weekday, the student will get it through email
There's a little information on Science Direct PPV and Article Galaxy PPV on the library guide to WorldCat Discovery.
Thanks,
Lea
